Gestión de Sedimentos. Nuevos Paradigmas
SPANCOLD is no stranger to the widespread concern about sediment accumulation across the planet, the effects of which are being aggravated by the consequences of climate change. Spain, many of whose rivers belong to the Great Mediterranean Basin, is significantly affected. From the SPANCOLD Sediment Management Technical Committee, we have begun drafting a Guide, the first part of which, NEW PARADIGMS. 2025, is presented in Spanish and English.
The document presents conclusions that may seem surprising:
- It is physically impossible to extract all the sediment accumulated in our reservoirs.
- We must focus on having bottom outlets operational.
- Technologies from 2025, and not from the middle of the last century, as is currently being done, must be used to study sediment deposits.
- If we don’t allow the sediment to reach the sea, the sea will invade our homes.
- It is essential to have soundings of the entire profile. Stratigraphic.
- We have developed a system that continuously measures the amount of dry matter extracted.
